Circus classes for kids aged 5+ to adults who can’t remember how old they are

The Circus Studio offers classes in circus arts including aerials, acrobatics, object manipulation and balance. We are a not-for profit organisation building a community of active and creative people.


Our Classes

Circus classes for children, youth and adults in a range of circus disciplines. Classes are held in our Kingston Studio.

Children and YOuth

Classes run in 10 week blocks in line with school terms, with a break for school holidays.

The Circus Studio is a reg​istered provider for the Ticket to Play program. Contact us to book using your voucher.

Circus ​Steps

Ages 7-12

Circus Steps classes cover the basics in ​aerial, juggling, balance and acrobatics ​in a progressive and fun way. Each term, ​students perform a show of their skills ​for their peers, which builds team work ​and performance experience. Students also ​receive a badge each term to mark their ​progression through the levels. Classes ​are broken into 3 level groups.


Circus Steps Levels 1-4: Best suited to ​students aged 7-9.

Circus Steps Levels 5-8: Best suited to ​students who have had either circus or ​gymnastics experience or students aged ​10+ starting circus for the first time.

Circus Steps Levels 9-12: Best suited to ​students who have had either circus or ​gymnastics training experience.

Circlets

Ages 5-7

Circlets classes follow roughly the same ​structure as Circus Steps, but with a ​shorter class and more of a focus on ​games and student-led learning.

Youth Aerial

Ages 8-17

(prior experience required)

Youth Aerial classes focus on learning skills ​on silks and static trapeze, along with the ​development of strength and flexibility to ​support progression on these apparatus. This ​is a physically demanding class open to those ​who have a strong interest in aerial and ​previous experience in circus, dance or ​gymnastics. Youth ​Fundamendtals

Ages 13-17

Youth Fundamentals is an extension of Circus ​Steps for teenagers continuing on or for those ​new to circus. Students are encouraged to follow ​their strengths and are taught higher level ​skills in a wide range of circus disciplines. ​There is a strong physical training component to ​this class.

School Holiday ​Workshop

Ages 5-12

A jam packed 2 hours of school holiday circus ​fun in our Kingston Studio for ages 5-12. ​Includes acro/tumbling, juggling/object ​manipulation, aerials (silks and trapeze) and ​balance. No prior experience required.

Adults

Intro to ​ae​rial

Be​ginners 18+

This 8 week course is the starting point ​for all new adult aerial students and ​covers aerial silks and static trapeze. ​Suitable for anyone with a willingness to ​try hanging, climbing and being upside ​down. Upon completion of this course, ​students can join our Level 1 Silks and ​Trapeze classes. Enrolments for Intro to ​Aerial are currently closed. Aerial ​Tast​er

Be​ginners 18+

This one-off class will give you a taste ​of aerial silks and static trapeze. A ​great way to try out aerials before ​joining our Intro to Aerial Course. ​Suitable for anyone with a willingness ​to try hanging, climbing and being ​upside down. Open ​Traini​ng

Experience ​required, ​18+

A time for current adult students of The ​Circus Studio and visiting profession​als to practice their skills at ​their own pace, supervised by an exp​erienced ​circus trainer.

Silks Or ​Trapeze

Experience ​required, ​18+

Our adult aerial classes are grouped into ​levels to support the progression of ​students as they build strength and learn ​new skills. After completing Intro to ​Aerial, students can move in to Level 1 ​Silks or Trapeze (or both!). We also ​offer Level 2 classes for more advanced ​students. Classes can be booked as 8 week ​bl​ocks, or individual drop-in classes.

Strength ​and ​Length

A 60 min class focussed on strength and ​mobility exercises and stretching, to ​build a strong and mobile foundation to ​enhance your circus practice, or your ​everyday life. A range of options and e​xercise progressions are offered to suit ​all levels of fitness.

Private Lessons

We offer individual or small group private lessons tailored to your needs. Whether you’re preparing for a performance or just wanting to try something new with a group of friends, our skilled trainers can tailor a class to your needs.

Workshops and Events

We offer a range of performance and teaching services to add a bit of circus fun to your next event, team day or birthday party. We also work with schools and child care centres. Event and workshop bookings are available in our Studio space in Kingston, or we can travel to you in greater Hobart and across Tasmania.
