Come Celebrate Our 6th Birthday

We’re turning 6 on the 1st May! We’re having a party between 1-3pm in our circus space and we’d love you to come along and celebrate with us. This year you will need to book, so read on.

This is a family event where we encourage you to come and experience some circus fun with your kids. Whether you’re already part of our circus or interested in coming and seeing what we do – this is a chance for the whole family to play!

Due to COVID limitations we can’t do this the usual way, where we throw open the doors and just invite you to come along. We need to manage numbers, and that means booking. We’re using our usual class booking system for this, you find details at the link below.

Before you book, please note that this is not a circus class where you can leave your kids to be supervised by their trainers. Our trainers will be there to help people out on equipment and keep everyone safe, but kids under 12 must have an adult supervising them.

CirQuiz 2021 – Come to Our Quiz Night

Join us for a night of friendly competition, dinner and Wild Island Circus performances!

On Saturday 23 January 2021, we will be holding our inaugural quiz night at the Kingborough Bowls and Community Club in Margate. We’ll be starting at 6.30pm sharp and it will go for about 3 hours.

We’ll have the Taco Taco Van there for dinner – please include any dietary requirements in your booking.

Unlike most of our community events, this one is for adults only. The venue is licensed and you will be able to purchase alcohol at the event.

Visit Eventbrite for all the event details and to book your tickets.

Something a Little Different

Our amazing Managing Director and head trainer, Adie Delaney, gave an exceptional TED Talk as part of TED Women this year. It’s about the connection between circus training, communication, boldly autonomy and ultimately consent.

Adie was meant to give this talk on the TED stage in Vancouver earlier this year – but we all know what happened to that. Instead, the talk was filmed in Federation Hall and our own circus space here in Tasmania.

It’s an insightful talk about an important topic – combining Adie’s passions and expertise. Check it out:

Update to Restart from COVID-19

Thank you for your patience as we return to normal classes through the COVID-19 regulations. We’re now in Term 3 and we’re opening back up to the Circlets and Circus Steps students.

You will now be able to pay for multiple classes in advance and then book as many classes as you would like in advance.
For example, if you would like to book a term of classes you can pay for 10 classes and then request that your place be reserved for the entire term.  These classes, once booked, are non-refundable and non-transferable. If you would like to pay for 10 classes in advance and continue to book week by week, that is also an option.

We hope this will give us all the flexibility we need in these uncertain times.

A reminder that we need a minimum number of participants to run classes, so it’s very important to get booked in as soon as possible.  We will give 24 hours’ notice if classes need to be changed or cancelled.  Thank you for your understanding and patience.

The re-opening of classes will be a progressive and staged approach, re-evaluated weekly. This means we will be re-opening with a smaller number of classes.  We are starting with classes that are ground-based only (tumbling, handstands, performance work, strength). As restrictions change we can move back into the air.

If you are not receiving the regular Friday class emails to book into the system, please email adie(at)circusstudio.com.au and ask to go on the mailing list.

Notice of AGM and Show

We’re Looking for a Bigger Home

We’re not quite packed and ready to go, but…

The Circus Studio is growing and we need to find a larger, dedicated space for our classes. Ideally, we would love to stay in the Kingston area to support the wonderful community that has grown around us in the last four years.

This is why we’re putting this post out into the world – because we’re going to need some creative thinking from people who might have room for us.

Room to move – space to fly

In a perfect world, the space would be a minimum of 14m x 12m with a ceiling height of 6m (preferably 8).

The ceiling is the bit that gets a bit problematic, but our vision is to have more regular swinging trapeze classes as well as a Flying Rig!!! There are two different heights for flying, we’re looking at the shorter one, which will mean we would be the only place in Tasmania to have one!

We also want to be self-determining with access and times – giving us greater flexibility in supporting our community’s needs and offering a wider range of classes and times. Which is why we would like our own, unshared space.

It’s getting too small for all of our monkeys!

What we’d like to know is – can you help? Or do you know anyone who might be able to?

Yes – we have money for rent, but as a non-profit trying to improve accessibility to our students there is an upper limit.

Yes – if you want to discuss partnership options we would love to talk with you about what we can provide alongside cash.

Yes – there are other needs around engineering requirements for structures, or the ability to put internal rigging in.

If you have a space you believe fits this bill in the Kingston/Huntingfield/Margate area, please get in touch. We’d love to work with you to find our new home.

Email Adie (adie@circusstudio.com.au) or give her a call 0437 408 903.
